Hi I wonder if anyone can help me with this one, I have a course that prints out a certificate and I'm using the cpguru print widget for this but the certificate looks faded on screen and prints very faintly, can anyone tell me how this can be fixed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
It's a certificate that I've designed and use in Captivate, I'm also using the 'PausMeNow' widget and I've just discovered that it's the one that's causing the problems, if I remove that widget the certificate looks and prints fine but not with it. I wonder if there is an alternative to the 'PauseMeNow' widget, unfortunately I can't put a button on the page as it will print with the certificate. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi there
Based on what you are describing it would seem you need to adjust either the pause point or the transition. Sounds like it's faded out because you have a fade in and fade out effect on the certificate object and the pause is stopping in the middle of the fade out or fade in.

They don't stack together, and both seem to be functioning fine the only problem is the look of the certificate it just needs more definition. The fade effect is turned off for this slide so that isn't the issue. I'm not quite sure what the pause point would be for the 'PauseMeNow' widget.
Hi again
Check to see if the fade effect is turned off for the OBJECT, not the slide. ![]()

No, also some static widgets can interact with users: radiobutons, checkboxes, TextArea and there is even a Static button widget. All those needs clicks, so that is not the way to see if a widget is interactive. You can filter in the widgets panel or use the work flow I described to see if the widget is interactive.

I did explain how you can check that, trying again:
It there is a Reporting portion, it is an interactive widget, if not it is a static widget

Hi Madeleine,
After reviewing your .cptx project, I was able to fix the fading of the certificate by moving the "PauseMeNow" widget to 1.0 seconds on the timeline. I suspect what's happening, is that the image is doing a fade in... even though you've told it not to. And the PauseMeNow is at the beginning of the slide so it's pausing during the fade sequence. Moving the Pause widget to the 1.0 second mark allows the image to fully fade in before the pause. Thanks for allowing me to see your project and I wish you success on your training!

Hi Jim
Thank you so much for your help, this problem has been driving me nuts and it's so simple (when you know how). I've also been on the forum with this one - and if it's okay with you I'll share the solution there as it seems to have got a few people's head scratching!
Many thanks again for your help
Warm Regards

Hi Lilybiri
Thank you so much for your patience and you were right it was the pausing point at the beginning of the slide. Yes Jim sorted the problem for me, I've entered his solution below hopefully it can help anyone else that might have a similar problem.

@Lieve - Yeah, seems odd that so many folks opt for arcane ways to pause a slide. I mean, really? A widget to do what a Click Box or a Button can do? I fail to understand the reason. Unless, of course, the widget creator failed to understand how Buttons or Click Boxes work. ![]()

Rick,
Still do not know if the Printwidget is an interactive widget, because then I understand why: you cannot cover up the slide with a click box all over if there is an interactive object under it that has to be functional.
Do you also have so much troubles with this new Jive version? I need a loupe to find the Reply (no button anymore) and the Edit is even disappeared both in IE and in Chrome (my fav browser). Just wanted to reply to you but I do not want to reply anymore in this environment. Sorry,
Lieve
LOL, I'm shocked to hear you say that!
Why? Because I view the forum changes the same way the Captivate overhaul was when version 5 was introduced. I and others had horrible trouble adapting to the new ocean of gray interface and tiny colorless icons.
Yet you and Rod and others thought it was the best thing since sliced bread because it finally looked identical to the other CS apps. And now the forum is the same way and you are complaining about it? ![]()
Couldn't resist teasing you... Rick ![]()

Same here, Rick. I liked the fact that they turned to a UI similar to other Adobe applications but I had also a lot of complaints about the grey interface. Remember that I told that architects over here want to have everything in grey, which I hate, when we were seeing that interface.
But no problem with being teased. Nevertheless, the present interface of the forums is AWFUL and it is very rare that I start to shout. Who is the bad designer here,
Lieve
Sorry Lilybiri, the print widget is static I forgot to answer that one. The reason I couldn't use a button on the page is because it was the course cerificate and I wanted the pages default to be pause, I also didn't want to print the button as well as the certificate - I couldn't see any other way of doing it without the 'PauseMeNow' widget which works a treat. Clearly for those who are familiar with the features of Captivate this wouldn't be an issue but for me as a newbie it was a life saver ![]()

if you just need a button to pause a slide, and don't want to see the button you could use a transparent click box or a transparent button.
Keep in mind when using a pause point that pages and objects may fade in/out so you'll want to adjust the pause either after a fade in, or before the fade out starts, otherwise you'll see what you experienced here in this original problem.
hope that helps.
Hi folks
Just to clarify what Andy suggested:
Click Boxes are always transparent. That's why I never use Transparent Buttons. I always opt for Click Boxes. But by saying "transparent Click Box" I see a hazard of a trap many folks fall into. The trap is that for objects in Captivate, there is a "Visibility" check box.
By saying "Transparent Click Box", folks might mistakenly conclude that they need to clear this option in order to create a Transparent Click Box. And that move would cause them to shoot themselves in the foot, as it would hide the Click Box and the slide would not pause as expected.
