I am new to InDesign. I have created a master page that has 4 graphic frames on it. If I create a page based on the master and I try to place an image in each frame, it only works for the first frame. Each subsequent place just put the image into the page but not one of the defined frames setup in the master.
Can someone tell me why this happens? And if this is what it is supposed to do, how do I accomplish creating a page based on a master that has 4 frames to accept graphics.
Any help is appreciated.
I am running MAC OS X 10.7.3, IDesign CS5.5. Here is a screen shot of my page layout derived from the master page. Once i place the first image using CMD+D into the frame of choice, i can no longer place another image into another frame on the page. I can still place the image, it just does not go into a frame (3rd image).
master, first placed image on a page, second image placed on page.
If I understood right , You have the page based on the Master page that has 4 graphic frame....
As if I know , you cannot place the image in the graphic frame which is on the master page unless it is not overridden , So if you have 4 graphic frame on master page say "A"
You create the page based on "A" master , to use the graphic frame you have "Shift+Ctrl" or "Shift+Cmd" on the graphic frame to override it and then you can place the image in that frame , if you will not do so you even can't select these frames.
Check to be sure you didn't lock the frames.
If that doesn't work, you might want to try trashing your prefs. see Replace Your Preferences
No. Even on the document page you don't need to overrride. If you hover over an open area in the frame you should see the cursor change, and if you click the image will be placed at 100% in the master frame and it will automatically override ont the document page, just like a text frame. Try it.
I do not see these files because the path does not exist and i do not see where to show hidden files in system preferences. Can you elaborate?
InDesign Defaults:
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\Adobe\InDesign\<Version #>\<language>\ (Note: Prior to version 6 [CS4] the language folder is not used).
Windows Vista or Windows 7: C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign\<Version #>\<Language>\ (Note: Prior to version 6 [CS4] the language folder is not used).
Macintosh: Hard Drive/Users/<USER>/ _______________XXX no library folder XXX ____________ Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/<Version #>/<Language>/(Note: Prior to version 6 [CS4] the language folder is not used).
I believe you are on Mac Lion on which the user library folder is hidden ,
Press "Option" key on the keyboard (keep it pressed) and then click on the "GO" button in the menu bar on top.
You will see library option , click on that it will open the library folder and then folloe the rest of the path
