Saving as .jpeg problem

I have Elements 8.  It worked properly until about a month ago.

Now when I edit a photo, like cropping, enhancing, and I save it as a .jpeg and try to open it

in the new folder, it is saved as .file

I am doing everything the same as I always did.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the program but to no avail

Can someone help me with this issue, your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

    Few queries to better understand this problem

     

    - Are you able to open these files in any of the applications of not?

    - Share a sample name you see in Windows Explorer.

    I have attached a copy of the file as it is saved after editing.

    Even though when I save it, it is indicated as being saved as .jpeg but when I try to open it, it is saved as .

    When I try and open it, a window opens and asks me to chose a program to open the file with.

    I have tried PSE but in doing so, it tells me that it cannot be opened because it is in the wrong file format.

     

    I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program but to no avail.

    It appears to me that you didn't one of the questions posed:

     

    Specifically:

     

    - Share a sample name you see in Windows Explorer.

     

    Please provide us with this information so we can diagnose this problem.

    Not sure what you mean by sample name you see in windows explorer.  Please explain.

    Hi Frank,

     

    I looked at your file and it seems that due to some reason file-extension is not added to the file. When I added '.JPG' in the end of your filename, it worked fine.

    I did as you suggested in this email.  I worked on a picture 3 times and 3 times it was saved in .file format.

     

    Thank you for your response but I still cannot get it to work properly.
