If you signed up to let adobe spam you when you registered, they frequently send emails offering an upgrade to PS for $299. However, when a new version comes out it takes quite a while before they get around to offering it again.

Hmmm...hasn't worked for me, and it's been over a year.

They won't do it right now, but sometimes if you call sales (NOT support) and ask nicely, you can get the upgrade price even when it's not officially on offer.

Oh boy, you might have opened Pandora's box with that one!

I can be real nice for $700....

I don't know why, but not all registered users get those emails for some reason, but usually someone over on elements village will start a topic if they get the offer

and then usually one can call adobe and still get the upgrade price even though you didn't get the email.

I'm interested to see if that will ever be offered for cs6 since they no longer show elements as a being a qualifying product for upgrading to photoshop cs6.

In cs photoshop versions past, an existng elements user could save about $100 on the price of photoshop, when ordering from adobe.

In the past it was usually because they turned off the checkbox for receiving offers, I think, at least in the US.

I double-checked my account preferences after reading your first post, and it's always been set to allow communications from Adobe.  I do not allow communications from 3rd parties, so maybe that's it -- if Adobe can't sell me out to anyone willing to spend a penny for my email....  Ooooops, I forgot about being nice....

You can't do it now. You can no longer upgrade to CS5, and adobe won't consider it at least till the initial sales rush for CS6 dies down. Whether they intend to continue this offer with CS6 remains to be seen, since they are making a number of changes in their pricing structure due to Creative Cloud.
