CS6 beta: program error when opening files

May 7, 2012 5:20 PM

I download PSCS6 beta, and since then, there are some files that I cannot open at all.

Got a message  ( in both, PS CS 5.1 and in CS6 ) that say;

"Could not complete you request because a program error"

Has anyone has any of this problem?

This is not good at all

Need help

Thanks

Which files are you referring to?

Also, the beta is gone and replaced by the trial of the release version now (with bugs fixed since the beta).

Again, you're not telling us what you're talking about.

WHICH files?  PSD files?  OBJ files?  The installer files?

And yes, you should go get the final version.

    Now we're getting somewhere.

Is there anything special about these files (3D, video, lots of type, etc.)?

Can you post one of the files that doesn't open so we can see why it might be failing?

Can you post the PSErrorLog.txt file from your Photoshop CS6 preferences folder (that might tell us where the program error occurs)?

According to that, the file would have to be corrupt - since it's a smart object data block that says it isn't a smart object type.

Can you post a download link to one of your problem files?  If you don’t already have large-file storage, online, then create yourself a DropBox account (www.dropbox.com) upload one of your files there, then post the public download link to it, here.

Yes, the file is corrupt.  It contains at least 2 smart objects, and the second one is in the corrupt section of the file.

Looking at the file in a hex editor, the last third of the file is solid zeros.

So, this file is not openable in CS4, CS5, or CS6.

Something went wrong when saving the file.

I can think of one more thing:  You might try to get to the bottom of why your file got corrupted.

You should never expect your computer to just corrupt files.  It is possible to have a computer system that never does so.  It may be that you have hardware problems or something else going on, but it would be a good idea to do a root cause analysis for why that file got corrupted, or you know you're going to have to deal with it again, sure as shootin'.

Given that Photoshop CS6 saves files in the background while you continue to work, is it possible it was still saving the file when you powered it off and you just didn't notice?
