Dreamweaver CS5.5 Crashes Upon Image Insertion

Hi there,

 

I am using Dreamweaver CS5.5 on Windows 7 64bit and I am having an issue with inserting images visually through the Insert > Image menu option and the common menu bar.

 

I can browse through explorer to the image I want, I can select the image and the moment I do Dreaweaver crashes. This also happens when defining background (or any) images in CSS styles.

 

However, when drag an image from the Files Panel to Code View, it works perfectly with no issue. This just literally started happening and I have no possible explanation for it unless it is a windows explorer issue of some kind. However, I am not having any image opening problems with any other programs through explorer.

 

I have also tried deleting the Dreamweaver Cache to no avail.

 

I would appreciate if anyone has any ideas or suggestions?

    Hi Ken,

     

    Thanks for the idea, but yes the site is set up correctly with the images pointing to the right folder...

    Does is occur In all sites?   All pages?  Or just one?

     

    Can you show us a link to a page that crashes?  Can you also show us a link to the image you're trying to insert?

    Thanks for your reply. Good questions!

     

    Yes, the image insertion problem happens on ALL sites. It happens with ALL images (no matter what image, or on what site). AND It happens on ALL pages.

     

    However, using the code insert method from the File Panel (where you drag and drop the image into the code) works perfectly to insert images.

     

    Sorry this is not an issue that I can actually show you an actual page or images as an example.

     

    I have a strong feeling it might be something windows related to windows explorer..

     

    I think I am going to disable all background processes and reboot windows and just start Dreamweaver alone to see if this still occurs. I will report back.

    Well after running MSConfig and disabling all services except Adobe & Microsoft Services. The problem still persists.

     

    So even if I have an image on the page and I click on the folder icon beside the image link in the properties inspector. That crashes Dreaweaver also.

     

    So anything to do with visually browsing and selecting an image (any image) is crashing Dreamweaver.

    Hi Nancy,

     

    Only if I follow the specific process I outlined above using the drag and drop from file panel using either code or design view.

     

    However, the moment I click the browse for file and use the file explorer to insert the image, the moment I select the image and click ok, DW crashes.

    Well, this has me stumped.  You said in an earlier post, you deleted DW Cache.

    Did you also delete your personal config folder?

    Thanks again for your reply.

     

    Yes, I was aware of this procedure and while I had not deleted the configuration folder, I had deleted the winfilecache.dat file. Since I have been using Dreamweaver since version 3. An old trick was to rename the configuration file to configuration_old (or something like that). Restart Dreamweaver and let it create a new configuration file. I did this unfortunately to no effect.

     

    I think what I am going to have to do is wait until my Creative Cloud subscription is active on the 11th and at that time do a complete CS5.5 script clean from my system. Then install the new CS6 and see how it all works out.

     

    If this persists after this then I will have to look at re-installing Windows. Hopefully someone will have an idea before then. It is always nice to leave your previous Adobe install in place and have the new version pick up your site preferences, extensions etc. to save a complete re-install...

    Also having the same problem as Martin but also crashes when I drop and drag from the files panel. Am using Mac Lion. Have updated software etc. etc. This makes Dreamweaver unusable for me. Will have to use Cloud CS6 - not acceptable!!!!
