Is there an easier way in CS 5.1 to get flowers out of the background besides using the mask?

I am trying to get three roses out of a photo so that I can put a texture behind them. Does anybody know how to do this. Masking is so tedious and them when I do get them masked off I have no idea how to get them out. I have tried looking in about 4 Photoshop books and on-line but to no avail. Someone please help.

Yes, some things take time and effort. There are no easy solutions and clean masking/ selections take a lot of practice and experience. Otehr than that simply convert your imgae to a layer by double-clicking on it. Then you can simply put stuff behind it by re-arranging teh stack.

Masking may not be as tedious as you think.

Russell Brown shows how to do it using Quick Select and Refine Edge in this video. He does it with a woman and her hair, but the concept is the same:
