I'm using Premiere Pro CS5.5 on a Mac Pro 1,1 running 10.7.3.
What's happening is I have footage copied from an SD card off an EX3 camera (folder structure is in tact) to a firewire drive. If I point the media browser to the BPAV folder, it identifies several clips to be used, but when I bring these into PP, the video in the clips are disregarded. There is only audio.
I tried opening the same clips using the Sony XDCAM browser and I can see the video footage just fine. I even tried exporting MXF from the XDCAM browser and importing that into PP, but still PP sees these as audio only clips. There is no video. Very bizzarre.
Any idea what's going on?
The issue is that PP is recognizing these clips as audio only. There's even an audio icon on the clip when I click on it in PP. But if I open the same clips using the Sony XDCAM Browser, I can see the video just fine. This is really bizzarre.
I tried having the XDCAM browser export MXFs thinking there was a problem in the file structure from the EX3, but that didn't work either. Still these clips are brought into PP with no video.
I just can't figure what's going on. I don't see any indexing going on.
I've been doing some more research on this and looks like what's going on is that I don't have the MainConcept codec pack installed and that's why I can't work with XDCAM natively (could that be? doesn't make sense if PP has facilites for that built in).
So I installed the demo of the Main Concept conversion pack for Mac. I still couldn't bring in native XDCAM into PP (why??). So I had to use the XDCAM transfer software from Sony. But because I have a demo of the conversion pack, I get a watermark on the video. At least there's video in the clips now. So I either have to spend for the full version of MC Codecs - really irritating as that was one of the reasons I got PP in the first place.
In the end this looks like a codec issue. If I'm missing codecs from PP CS5.5 how do I get those from the web?
