Invalid Asset Location

Nov 15, 2011 10:04 AM

I'm new to the DPS and am working with updating another designer's files and moving them to my system. I understand that "invalid asset location" means that some link for some overlay is messed up. In my Links panel, everything is connected okay. Is there a way to "find" or "show" all overlays? I find myself just clicking on everything in the document to see if an overlay has been created--this is not working so well.

Thanks.

You cannot rely on the Links panel in InDesign CS5/CS5.5 to locate disconnected overlays. I'm not aware of a way to find or show all overlays. You may want to check the other designer's file structure to look for overlay folders.

I just found another cause for this error, mutiple web content overlays that end with trailing forward slashes. Read about it as solution #1 in this KB doc:

I have also encountered this when an asset was removed, but the overlay wasn't.

For example, setting a Pan & Zoom overlay on an image frame, deleting the image and attempting to upload to the cloud throws this error. Removing the overlay from the empty image frame seems to resolve the problem.

I came across this error this week with an article with everything on it. After a lot of deconstruction it turned out it was a valid mp3 file causing the upload to fail. We tried importing a variety of mp3 files onto several fresh templates all on different machines and everyone failed because of an invalid asset location error. V19 bug?

Experienced this error and after clicking on suspected culprit image containers eventually found the overlay error. The problem was not clear to me though.

It would be great to make asset settings visible somehow and include asset options for preflight.

    Hope CS6 covers these issues.
