I am new to InDesign. I purchased a template but I can't seem to open it with all of its contents including fonts and backgrounds. How do I open the template in its entirety?
Usually, all it takes is "Open". With a template, this would then create a new Unititled document, with all of the items in place. Alternatively you can use "Open" and then click the radio button at the bottom which says, "Original" -- this allows you to open and edit the template (and you must remember to save it As, or you'll overwrite the original template).
"I can't seem to open it" is pretty vague, though. Do you get ANY error message at all? If so, what is it?
You will to purchase the fonts it needs, although most templates I've seen use free ones which a google search will find. Then you need to install them.
As to relinking you just do exactly that, go to the links panel, click on a link with a yellow triangle or red circle by it, then click on the chain icon to relink it which will bring up a box where you have to find the file.
I can tell you now though that if you're having problems with these basic issues you're going to run into all sorts of other questions. May I suggest lynda.com or buying a book. If you search enough you can find quite a few free videos too, but lynda is by far the best. The Adobe Classroom in a Book series are very good too.
Useful warning, but don't be too scared by them, there are many good ones out there, a good way to find them is here.
