CS6 save for web bug

May 8, 2012 12:46 AM

Has anyone else seen this bug?...

When saving for web - changing the image size with width/height link selected is buggy - when entering a new height, the width does not change properly.

e.g.

original size is 595px x 842px

if i enter 1200 in the height, width changes Ok as I enter 1 - 2 - 0 but not as I enter the final 0. So when I've entered 1200, the width is stuck at 85

By moving around the boxes, I can eventually get the correct width but it takes a few goes

I've seen that inconsistency as well.

    Pretty dull.

Sadly, this is just one of the first of many that we'll find with a re-write of this magnitude.  Make sure the right folks know about it: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

Regarding the past decade, that wishform sham is useless when we are talking about receiving real maintenance updates on a regular basis.

    See AI CS 6.

Since the implementation of the live update in Save For Web, you simply need to be slower when entering values. At about the 3th character the update attempts to proceed. If you slow down when entering them, the hiccup won't happen.

I cannot reliably confirm your statement, Scott.

I can't absolutely state it's the 3rd character. I have seen this issue a few times here. But each time I try and replicate it in order to get specific steps, I can't. In my testing, it's been clear to me that the faster I enter values, the more likely it is to occur.

I have just tested this myself and cannot reproduce it either.

I ave a video if anyone would like to see it I simply had no problems, perhaps I am misunderstanding the issue?

Although I am at the moment using the trial version, my mastter collceion has not arrived.

It's an inconsistent behaviour. It sometimes happens and sometimes not, no matter how slow you enter the values.

I would call it a dodgy bug.

Yes I was able to reproduce it but I had to type really fast and even st that just adding another zero and it updates.

Icertainly like the way the save for the web is displaying the art.

Well at any rate I won't acll this a bug and it is definitely no big issue.

    Scott,

what happens when you draw a simple rectangle, filled, 100 mm wide and 50 mm high, then do a Save for Web and enter (as slow as possible) 1200 into the Width input field (proportionally, while the save Artboard option is turned off) ?

For me, it seems to just be intermittantly ignoring the last 0. Enter 1200 quickly, and it goes to either 61 or 612 (my document is in points, not px) and then shift tab back up and the 1200 will become a 120, as though the last 0 wasn't really there.

Tab and shift tab to enter and re-enter it.  It's not hard to trigger.  If it isn't a bug, at the very least it's a really poorly thought out interface design.  It needs to wait for the input, confirmed by a tab or leaving the text area, before moving it's attention away from the info being entered or, as is shown here, some of the info being entered gets lost in space.

I'm also not seeing any change when I alt/option click "reset".  Shouldn't that be returning the image size w & h to where it was when the save for web dialog was opened?

No issue.... if I type slowly. I do hit the issue if I type rapidly.

Seems it's more apt (but not exclusive) to happen if the clip to artboard is unticked.

Thanks, Scott, for confirming – er – not confirming my assumption (which I still can reproduce reliably here).

However, I do agree with Jesses statement. It is at least poor interface design.

I have also just experienced this issue recently and it seems that by taking away the "apply" button they are applying on the fly. Just not that quickly which is surprising on a 64bit version. (I am coming from CS4 so not sure if it was taken away in CS5 or not). Further to this annoyance is creating hot spots (clickable areas) on the image, then 'save image and html' option is gone. So you have to preview the image in a brower and save the html out from their. Annoying and one step extra that is just not needed.

Oh come on - is it just me or is there something wrong with the fact that we might have to type really slow in order to get it to recognize what size we want - and not take 1200px and give us something that is only 120px because we move too fast?  I do tend to type fast, and I have found this issue to be maddening.  I agree with above, that removal of the Apply button (which was a pain too  but at least you had some control) probably is causing what we are experiencing.  I just hope an update fixes it.  The new CS6 has  many redeeming qualities but this one just sticks out in my mind as a pain in the *** - considering how much web work I do.

Similar problem, when I enter a Percent into Image Size it rarely does anything. Every now and then it'll apply automatically it but most of the time I have to force it by toggling the alias dropdown. I'm working with fairly large images because I'm doing retina iPad mockups and scaling them 50%.
