Crash in Flash Pro CS6

May 8, 2012 1:45 AM

Hi folks,

I have a minute of video that I am trying to import as a PNG image sequence.  Crash.  Crash.  Crash.  If anyone has time to test ...

Alright .. 5 minutes later .. import sequence to stage OK .. Save OK .. Now this is what happens when publish to HTML via Toolkit for JS.  Parent FLA now crashing Flash on launch.

Few hours later ..

The FLA is 89MB and there are 1400 JPEG images, average size about 40KB.  After re-jigging the PNG sequence to JPG, I added a soundtrack got it to import the sequence and save. So far so good.  Export via Toolkit for JS.  Works fine in browser.  Close FLA.  Re-open FLA and crash.

Crash report reads at last line: Physical Memory: Page Size = 4k, Total = 12288M, Free = 17592186042454M

WTF!!  Couldn't be a memory leak could it?  NB I have 12GB RAM on board.

Not that it seems like it should matter but why are you running OSX Server for a workstations purpose? OSX Server should be used to serve.

Besides that anytime an exception is not handled (especially try to use an object that doesn't exist) you get EXC_BAD_ACCESS as you are every time. It's not likely you're going to find a fix for this.

I hope you're running that flash animation locally. I can't imagine for any reason why you wouldn't use a video over a JPEG sequence.

    Hi IanD ,

We are investigating this crash at our end. It would be helpful if you could share the testfiles which you imported into Flash.

We tried with a couple of files but weren't able to repro the crash.

We will let you know as soon as we get more information about this issue.

    Thanks and regards,

    Sudeshna Sarkar

Ah so you're doing more than just playing a straight video, like using certain portions of the image sequence? Otherwise I'm not sure why you wouldn't utilize a mp4. It takes a little more scripting but you can even project that mp4 into the canvas and manipulate it.

A movie is a sequence of images with the ability to perform more sophisticated behavior wrapped up in a single file. So when you say you want to export a sequence of images to canvas it sounds like "I want to play a movie on canvas".

What exactly are you trying to do?

    Hi IanD ,

    Thanks for the samples.

I created a new project in Flash CS6 and imported all the PNG sequence images. The images got imported without issues. However on trying to save this project, Flash crashed on Mac.

The issue is not reproducible on Windows though.

We are investigating this and will get back to you soon.

    Thanks and regards,

    Sudeshna Sarkar
