Captivate 5.5 Text caption control

May 10, 2012 8:27 PM

I have been asked to produce a tutorial whereby the viewer has the ability to turn the captions on/off.  Is this possible?

Thanks

    Hello,

You do not give any details about the kind of tutorial. If it is not a software tutorial, wouldn't it be easier to have Closed Captiioning instead of Text Captions? CC can be turned easily on/off with one action that toggles the value of the system variable cpCmndCC.

If you want to do it with normal Text Captions, it will be a lot more work although it is possible. In that case I would personally prefer to have two files, one with and one without captions and have a 'master file' where the choice is made and you embed branching to the correct file.

Why is it a lot of work in one file? Each Text Caption has its proper ID (unless those that you can set to display for rest of project), hiding them will need to create an advanced action to hide/show each TC individually on entering the slide because of that unique ID. Lot of advanced actions to edit, even though they are very simple.
