I've noticed that it takes longer to open MP3 files in Audition CS6 than in AA3. Is there some setting that I have to change in the preferences???
Hmm... the internal engines are completely different, although ultimately the processes involved are the same - the file has to be decoded into Audition's internal wav format, and a peak file generated so that you can see the waveform on the screen. I suspect that the difference is that in the last two releases, the spectral display has to be calculated at the same time, to be displayed simultaneously, and since this is now inherent in the way edit view works, I don't think that there's anything you can do about it, I'm afraid.
Thanks Steve, your explanation makes sense. I never realized that it had to calculate the spectral display. I always wondered why it took so long even with CS5.5 Anyway the App does open superfaster that AA3 and earlier versions which is really excellent. May Adobe will fine tune this in the next release.
I thought I'd get scientific and dug out my stopwatch. I picked a 5:48 stereo MP3 track encoded at 192kbps.
In AA3 it took 3.6 seconds to open. In CS6 it took 3.9 seconds, so a miniscule difference.
However, the time I'm saving now that I'm getting used to the Media Browser is orders of magnitude different--the new Browser function could have been written for my workflow (lots of playing with sound effects etc.).
