Cannot download PFD files

Every time I try to download a pfd file the internet explorer stops working. I have updated the adobe reader, and am using IE9 and windows 7. Can anyone help?

    Are you using the 32-bit or 64-bit edition of IE9?

     

    How are you downloading these PDF files; just click on it, or right-click + Save Target As... ?
