As a last resort I was up for <gasp> buying a paid support ticket. I am very happy that the problem disappeared for me, but if it had been persistent, buying a ticket would have been worth it to me.

(And, yeah, I am surprised and disappointed that Adobe doesn't have roaming experts chiming in the forums when there are problems like this. Other companies, do. Of course, other companies aren't as financially succesful as Adobe. Go figure!)
