CS5.5 - Page-specific layers

Hi all,

It seems that layers in a multipage document belong to all the pages. In other words, if I want a black background on one page, and I place that background of a distinct layer which I name "Black Background", such "Black Background" layer will appear in the Layers regardless of what page I'm working on.

My question is: when I create a layer, is there a way to make that layer page-specific, so that it belongs only on that one page and does not show in the Layers panel when I work on other pages?

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Regards,

Dominique

Lyaers are document-wide. What you put on them are page-specific.

I dont think there is a way of doing it as the layers are document specific.

But would like to know why you want to do so ?

No. Best to name that layer something informative like page 1 b/g and lock it.

Get that man another cup of coffee.

What do you gain by locking the layer? Name it something useful like Background and use it on all of the pages to but things that should be behind everything else, as intended. If only one page needs content on that layer, no harm, no foul, but why propagate a bunch of layers that have an object on only one page when the same layer can be used for different objects on many pages?

Nothing…but he wanted it for that first page only.

FWIW, I’ve found myself wanting something like this in the past for complicated MSOs. I really needed them to have very specific names because of some issues with DPS so using them on other pages was pretty much out of the question.
