Hi guys, new to this forum, just want your opinions on this potential new system I'm looking to put together.

Hard Disk 1: 120GB Intel 520 Series SSD, (550MB/sR 520MB/sW)
Hard Disk 2: 120GB Intel 520 Series SSD, (550MB/sR 520MB/sW)
Hard Disk 3: 2TB WD Caviar Black (7200rpm)
Optical Drive: 12x Blu-Ray RW Drive, 16x DVD (I know this is probably irrelevant though)
Power Supply: Corsair 850W Enthusiast Series Bronze
Processor Cooling: Intel Cert. Liquid CPU Cooler (2011)
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Unless you are in a "managed network environment" where you will use the extra features, all you need is Win7 64bit Pro
If it was me, I'd go with a Corsair 850watt Gold power supply, not Bronze
I don't know that case, but I have a CM Storm Scout mid-tower case, and now I wish I had gone with a full tower case for easier cable layout

Looks good to me!! Realistically, you'll only need 750w of power, but if you have the money for 850w, then go for it!. Sounds similar to the system I'm hoping to build in the next week or two:

@Harm Millaard could you have a look at the Kingston RAM I've picked out here and tell me if is really 1.5V memory or if it uses those Micron chips? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-121-KS Are Kingston a bit dodgy and should I consider a different brand like Corsair (they would be my first choice but I'm a bit restricted in height because of my CPU cooler.

One thing I notice is the lack of sufficient hard drives.
The SSDs are good for the System drive and the other would be good for the new After Effects Global Cache. The 2TB is good for Media. But ideally you should still have separate Project and Export drives (one for each).
Don't know about the i7-3820 and the memory controller on-board, whether it is as finicky as the i7-3930. Can't help you there. The Corsair TX 'Bronze' I would exchange for the AX 'Gold' PSU.
Each module kit has been tested to run at DDR3-1600 at a low latency timing of 10-10-10 at 1.65V.The SPD's are programmed to JEDEC standard latency DDR3-1333 timing of 9-9-9. Each 240-pin DIMM uses gold contact fingers.
This means that these memory sticks are not optimal. Given the CAS latency timings and the voltage, I assume they do use Micron chips.You should be looking at memory sticks that run at 1.35V @ 1600 speed.
@Jim Simon I actually have another 1tb hard-drive that I didn't mention from an old external drive sans casing and I have a 250gb drive from my old PC. So you're saying that I should use the 2tb for media and 2 more drives for project and export? What's the benefit of this?
@Harm Is there a massive benefit in getting the AX Gold over the Bronze? I'm already fairly over-budget as is!! Could you suggest some RAM that would perform optimally with a low-profile to fit under my CPU cooler? I'm hoping to get 16gb (2x8gb) to start off with and then later on, upgrade to 32gb with another 2x8gb. Will my motherboard run ok with just two slots of RAM for a while?
Go for the gold much better regulation and lower ripple
Find yourself some low voltage RAM and check what ASUS recommends, there have been nightmare problems with the new LGA 2011 CPU's and RAM chips
There is a natural tendency to skimp on the PSU, if it delivers 750W, so what? 750W is enough, right? No, wrong. It is all about the quality and stability of the output current and not about the rated output under optimal conditions. Even a 1200W PSU will not increase your energy bill if the system does not need that power.

Speed. Generally speaking, the more you separate things onto different drives, the faster your system will perform. If the Media and Export drive are the same, then the system has to read and write to the same drive. That slows things down. So...
C: SSD - OS and Programs
D: 1TB - Projects/Scratch
E: 2TB - Media
F: 250 GB - Exports
G: SSD - Global Cache (for After Effects)
What is this nightmare problem what you mentioned?I have G.Skill DDR-3 32Gb /1866 KIT with Asus P9X79 Pro and till now Im not recognized any problem.Mr. Harm and other said better the RAM voltage 1,35V.The specification
of this my Gskill is "test voltage: 1,5V" .This mean I made a wrong choise when I bought this type?

I was trying to figure out what RAM to use when I spotted Overclockers have a service where they build a computer for you. The P9X79 Pro is the default motherboard and it gives you the following choices for the RAM. Could be a good reference point perhaps when choosing the RAM?
I think I'm gonna have to change to liquid cooling to make life a bit easier. Trying to find compatable RAM that's low-profile (and now 1.35v) is a nightmare. Gonna go with the Corsair H100 with Noctua fans to keep the thing a bit quieter. Have to see if my Antec P280 case will fit it now (I think it will).
Yikes, this whole issue with the RAM is really pushing the price up for me. Nearly considering moving back down to an LGA 1155 socket board now with an Ivybridge i7. I just loved the idea of having the ability to use 8 slots of RAM and the option of upgrading to the 3930K with 6 cores (or it's inevitable Ivybridge 8-cored cousin) in time...
I was hoping to get the Corsair Vengence 16gb (2x8gb) and just use the two sticks for the time-being and later get the same again to bring me up to 32gb.
