Pictures don't 'display' in 10.1.3

All of a sudden pics do NOT display in this version, just a dark gray 'box' ? ! ?
Interesting thing tho, is a document PRINTS just fine ? ! ?
I don't recall exactly when (version wise) this problem started 
? ?
My only thoughts are to UN-install current program and re-stall new (just D/L'ed 
? ! ?
Ideas
