Problem with hidden objects when moving layers, groups or artboards

Hi there,

I am using Illustrator CS5.5 on a Mac.

Sometimes, after moving stuff around (groups, layers or artboards), I notice that hidden objects didn't move with everything else.

Does somebody knows how this can be if no objects are locked ?

I cannot make this happen on purpose with a simple example and it is really annoying not to be sure that everything was moved properly.

Thanks

R.

    ronfya,

If you have hidden objects within a group, they will move with it; otherwise, they will be left behind.

At least that is/was how it was.

    Hi

Jacob is correct and nothing have changed to Illustrator CS6 on this subject.

This is the way Illustrator works since version 88 (if I remember well).

    Gustavo.

    Hi ronfya

It does not matter if the objects are locked or not locked.

At true...when you move artboard or move the artkwork itself.... if there are single objects (not grouped) that´s hidden...this will keep in the same location. Now it there are objects inside groups...the group is visible but one object inside no...this one will move together the visible group.

    Best Regards

    Gustavo.

This is what I found if you duplicate the layer before moving it select the layer not the art on the artbaord  then move the art  and the hidden art moves with the visible art at least in CS 6.

That's how it works, only the objects that are selected as shown in the layer panel are affected. The small square next to the group shows that not the group but only some of the objects contained are selected. To select the whole group in the layer panel click on the little circle  to the left of the little square.

    Emil,

    A little misunderstanding here.

Like you say, clicking on the target to select (targeting objects) : this is exactly what I do.

I get exactly the same results as emil, if I click on the target (the circle) everything gets selected (including hidden objects). If I click next to target (where the squares are), only the visible objects get selected.

Problem is that I don't know why but when doing this (targeting objects), SOMETIMES this result in selecting everything within the group BUT SOMETIMES it result in selecting only the visible objects withtin the group.

I don't know what triggers that difference in behavior.

    R.

May be sometimes you are clicking accidentally on the Selection Column without realizing it - the Target and the Selection are very close to each other

    C. Target column   D.Selection column

maybe sometimes you do this on a layer, not on a group. They behave differently, but look very similar.
