everytime I try to import an article from a InDesign file with multiple layouts (for iPad and iPhone) I get an error message that a file with different page sizes can't be imported.
The file only can be added manually to the folio when it is opended in ID.
But this means that I need to create all my folios manually – 3 times, if I create for iPad, iPad 3 and iPhone.
Who knows about this problem?
Hope for a solution.
Something that kills the advantages for multiple-Layouts for the time being. Has this "bug" been known at the release of v20? Ist it documented in a place where on could find it other than this forum?
It would be easier to knew things (bugs) like this before learning them the hard way during production process (like every time )
Where is the best plkace to inform? This Forum? Thanks in adavance everyone.
btw: other than this bug, i really like the feature of multiple layouts in one document. I'm sure in the future this will help us a lot.
Many thanks for the support. Two question:
1- where i find in my cs6 installation the number of the release? I know it is V21.
2- for now alternate layout is not used? Or any way is better work in this way and then separate the document?
You can still use them but you have to add the articles individually.
FWIW, I still recommend single orientation. Dual orientation is just too much work for too little return.
I realize others will disagree.
1 - In InDesign CS6, choose Help > Updates. If the DPS Desktop Tools option appears, install it. Then you'll be using the most current tools. (If DPS Desktop Tools does not appear, it's already been updated.)
2 - You can create articles using alternate layouts, but you have to use the Add button. The Import option is not yet supported for documents with alternate layouts.
Many thanks Bob for your support. 1) I want only understand what is my release number. Yes, i know that is updated! 2) Sorry - remember me where is -- Add feature -- i don't find it! Yes i read here: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/digitalpubsuite/using/WS4cb2576c7954973c18 306752136e6c6200d-8000.html Many thanks.
1. The current release version is v21.
2 - It's here:
Given the timing of versions relases of DPS, if I get this straight, that would mean that, at least up to end or middle fall this year, DPS won't allow importing multiple articles that use alternate layout? ...meaning you'd have to do that one by one manually and that you cannot use things like sidecar.xml and/or some kind or scripting?
I'd just like to be sure because that would have an important effect over a prospective workflow.
The sidecar should be in its own folder seperate from the articles. After all the articles have been added then import the sidecar using the multiple import option. This also works great for updating the sidecar.
I don't think that we are getting DPS cheap. I don't think that we are getting something free, for every download we pay quite a lot of money. I don't think that we should listen much longer for "not high enough on our priority list" for lot of things - single issue for iPhone, multiple resolution import and so on. We are begging for reliable tablet and phone Android reader (we will lose one very important customer because of this crap, which you are serving as an Android reader for last two years). Yes, it will be there (maybe, somehow, with limited features!) with V29. One year too late! So, i don't think that your answer was right. I think, that you should stop with building skyscraper with fancy features and go back to roots - make things good working and reliable and then build on this.
Yes, i'm little bit angry, but i don't think that i'm impatient. For second year we were very seriously considering if we will pay for another year with DPS, or if we will switch our customers to another platform. V28 was one release, which was from my point of view finally worth it - new analytics, text notifications. But it was really after nearly year.
