Template Updates Erases Metatags

I added a new section to my site (around 100 pages). I than made a change to my template after this. When I saved and update my template pages in Dreamweaver CS5, it wentand erased all of my meta tags, but just on the recently added pages. What can I do to prevent this from happening every time I change my template? It has happened twice now.

Templates are tricky.  Spend some time reading about DW Templates in F1 (help).

In a nutshell, Template Editable Regions are for unique content that changes from page to page.

    • Page Title
    • Meta tags
    • Page specific styles
    • Page specific content

Everything outside Editable Regions appears on all pages:

    • Links to site wide scripts,
    • Links to site wide external CSS files,
    • Site wide navigation,
    • Site wide headers
    • Site wide footers.

If you open your Template.dwt file and remove or alter an editable region that is already being used on child pages, child page content will disappear.

    Hope this helps,

You SHOULD have an Editable Region in your <head> tags.  If you don't, your Template is not properly formed.

Can we see your Template code?
