changing text caption margins

May 14, 2012 8:42 PM

I want to add some padding around my text captions. When I edit the FCM file, it seems to make the caption image smaller, but the textbox stays the same, having the opposite effect of what I want.

So, this is what I'm doing:

Copy HaloYellow3.bmp and HaloYello3.fcm and rename HaloYellow3 - padded

Open HaloYellow3 - padded.FCM and change margins from 10 to 20

Choose text caption on stage and change caption type to HaloYellow3 - padded

Why is it not working?

    Hi there

Captions have a minimum size. That size is determined by the size of the bitmap image used as the caption background. Some of the supplied caption types are fairly large.

If you are playing with the FCM files, note that you need to do this with a throwaway project. Adjust the FCM settings, use the caption in a blank project. Get what you want? Scrap, adjust and start over. Rinse and repeat until the margins look acceptable, THEN use the caption type in a live project.

Once a caption type has been used, it is then cached inside the .CP or .CPTX file and no changes will be reflected.

    Cheers... Rick
