Few characters (+ in superscript,bullets)  are appearing as junk characters in bookmarks

When we export PDF's from Indesign CS 5.5, few characters (+ in superscript,bullets)  are appearing as junk characters in bookmarks.  Please advise on how to resolve this problem, as this is affecting our production badly
