Why only greyscale in New documents?

If I select a "New" document in CS5 I find that I am only able to paint or fill in in greyscale. This is new.

In the Colour options panel the greyscale slider is ticked and all other options are greyed out.

How do I remoove the tick by the side of the greysacel slider and make the other options availabe for selection as normal. I note that if I open a previously openmed document all optios are availabe it just seems to be new blank documents.

Any help will be appreciated.

Did you actually look at the File - New dialog? You can specify what kind of file to open there.

Firstly Noel, Thanks for your thoughts. I am afraid the more you look the
less you see! The New dialogue was indeed set to "Open in Grayscale" No
Idea why though!

You might have had a greyscale image stored in the clipboard. If, for instance, you right click an image in your web browser and choose 'Copy', and go to Photoshop and do Ctrl n, it will bring up the New image file dialogue box with the pixel dimensions and other properties of that image now in your clipboard.
