I purscahed PShop CS6 Upgrade a few days ago as an upgrade for the full CS4 Extended (which was upgraded to CS5 last year). I installed CS6 as an upgrade to the installed and registered CS5.
Neither Bridge CS6 nor Photoshop CS6 will read Canon Cr2 raw files, and the "About Photoshop" splash screen indicates my purchased CS6 is a Beta version.
What has gone wrong? Should I uninstall CS5 and CS6, reinstall CS4 and then apply the CS6 upgrade to CS4?
Thanks
Ken Lilley
When you get CS6 beta cleaned from your system:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/4361731#4361731#4361731
or by the sound of things, you are going to need to use
http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
Run the cleaner and choose CS6 from the list
But when that is sorted out and CS6 (non beta) is installed, you may need the ACR 7.1 update if you have a recent Canon Camera

Do all CR2 files fail, or just those from certain camera models? (All CR2 files are not the same format: they vary quite a lot internally, even though they share the same extension)

Where did you purchase it from?
Did you have the public beta installed previously? (you have to uninstall the beta before installing the trial or final release version)

Hi Chris
Thanks for the reply. My reply is a bit delayed from time zones - I
live in Australia & had to go out to do some work.
My CS6 upgrade was bought from the Adobe Store Australia on May 10.
Order number is: AD003318323AU
The downloadsI got on May 10 seemed to cause the problem. I had trouble
with the Akamai option but used a second option to get CS6 in 2 files -
the small exe and the big zipped file. The small exe wouldn't unzip the
main file so I unzipped it manually and installed from that, and somehow
or other I finished up with the beta version. I'd never installed the
beta version before this, but the "About Photoshop" splash screen made
it obvious that I had it then.
When I got home a while ago I ran the Adobe download process again and
this time it worked, and file sizes and date last modified etc were
different in today's download. I deactivated the first CS6, uninstalled
it, ran Adobe Creative Suite Cleanser Tool and reinstalled from todays
downloaded files. My new CS6 is the correct & current version.
Adobe will probably have another confused customer somewhere who did
what I did at about the same time and got the beta version instead of
the real program.
The CR2 files I couldn't open were from a Canon G1X. My Canon 5D Mk2
files opened properly.
Thanks again

As you can see in the list in Trevor's post, that camera was first supported in ACR 7.1.
It was and is not supported in the Camera Raw version that ships with the beta nor the one that comes with the final version of CS6. You need to update it to ACR 7.1, which is currently in RC (beta) status.

And this is all the fault of the camera manufacturers that insist on working with proprietary file formats (most of them being based on Adobe's Tiff-EP file format) instead of using the documented DNG format. Because of this Adobe must first get their hands on a camera to decypher its files.
Do send your complaints at Canon.
(That said, I wonder if the new Greyscale Leica files are natively supported)

So Adobe's boffins have to reverse engineer every new RAW format from the camera. Or from a RAW file from each new camera - they surely don't have one of every new camera that comes out? It would be nice to think that was true, because I am imagining all those Adobe engineers lining up to do some more research with the Phase One P65 over the weekend.

Adobe's, Bibble's(Corel's), DXO's, PhaseOne's, Apple's, Silkypix's, etc. etc.
And even the engineers that create the software for the camera manufacturers, as these soft need to be updated too for each camera release.
Imagine all the collective man hours lost at all those companies, when that time could have been spent on new algorithms, or features!
By using proprietary and undocumented raw formats, those companies waste precious time of some of the brighter minds in this industry.

I got these raw CR2 files from my camera man and cannot open them in CS6 Photoshop becoz the plugin is not new enough. I failed to update the plugin from PS. So I was trying my luck in Bridge, I used the updates in Bridge to successfully update the plugin in PS. Now I can open the CR2 files in PS! Hope this is helpful. Actually you can update all other adobe applications through Bridge, just tick the ones you want to update and click update. Easy as.

Mention of "CR2" files without specifing the exact Canon camera model that gererated them is useless.

I got updated to Cam Raw plugin 8.3 and the CR2 files were taken by Canon EOS 5D Mark III

So you're replying to a 2-year-old message saying that you were able to process raw files after updating your camrea raw plug-in to the latest version, using Bridge. Good for you.

If you consider wasting other users's time harmful, then yes.
