Importing MP4 problems. Help?

Hey guys.

So i have downloaded a bunch of youtube videos. as mp4's and want to import them into a premiere project.
However only half the videos imported correctly, the other half only get read as audio files.

after a bit of searching around in the files I found that the cut off point is where the video quality changes from non hd to HD

anything that isn't 720HD with a 2000+kbps only gets read as audio.

EG. a video of 480x360 with 450kbps is audio

a video of 1280x720 with 2425kbps is video

i used the same program to download the videos but some of the ones online didn't have the HD copy avaliable so thats why there is the difference.

Any ideas on whats happening and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance

Yes.  Stick to using media you have the legal right to edit, preferably that using a supported camera format.

I have found a solution: I hope this is more helpful for others it just worked for me.  I installed the latest Quicktime and also the H264 codec!!! now works !! bizarre!!

And, not at all bizarre... PPro does not come with every codec there is... and, as far as I know, the system requirements page specifically says to install Quicktime

Thats the thing, Quicktime was installed (7.0) though the latest is Quicktime 7.4 something. I am just kind of frustrated with the other importing exporting issues I came across in my past on using Premiere and have thought about editing my movie on other software now. Thankyou for your responses
