Why is PS CS5.5 crashing when opening RAW/CR2 files in Lion 10.7?

May 13, 2012 11:29 PM

After years of saving, I finally upgraded my Mac family to a new MacBookPro and iMac. Both are running Lion 10.7 and both are having issues with Bridge 5.5, PS 5.5 and Lightroom 3. InDesign, Illustrator, and Acrobat run fine.

Bridge shuts down before even opening. Lightroom does fine in the Library window, but crashes when veiwing in the Develop window. PS handles .jpgs, .psds, and .tifs without a hitch, but try opening a RAW/CR2 file and it shuts down too. I feel some error is happening when the ACR plug in kicks in, but I've yet to find a solution.

Here's what I've done so far:

  • Run all Lion and Adobe CS5.5 updates
  • Updated the Adobe Camera Raw plug-in to 6.7
  • Installed JAVA (now running SE 6 32 and SE 6 64 bit with checked option "Enable applet plug-in and Web Start applications"
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled CS5.5 more times than I can remember
  • Implemented "Troubleshoot Camera Raw" bulletin (#kb407110)
  • Installed PS6
  • Even run Lion Recovery on iMac

I'm at my wits end and haven't a clue what to do next. Running down software solutions is not my specialty or desire. I'm merely a photographer that needs to process images. My equipment is brand new and should be working without a hitch, right?

I egarly look forward to some easy to folllow feedback. Thanks in advance.

I've moved the discussion to the camera raw forum, so the ACR engineers (Hi Eric!) can take a look at the crash.

Hi, Eric is on PTO this week. Please send me a private email to mqi@adobe.com<mailto:mqi@adobe.com>, would it possible to send me your cr2 file? Using either yousendme.com or drop box. Thanks.

I think it's great that the Adobe people were able to give you such personalized assistance.  Be sure to keep it all a secret so that none of us will ever know what the solution was.

No, that's OK.  I was really just kidding.  I have been following your dilemma, and was just curious to know what it was.  Didn't mean to offend, but I guess my comment was a little snarky.
