"Could not initialize Photoshop because the preferences file was invalid (it has been deleted)"

I have this error message and can not open CS6.. just purchased.  I had a trail version of it, but when I deleted some plug-ins (as per the manufacturers instructions, as they are not compatible with CS6)... now I have this message.

I went to a forum where they said I had to:

  1. Go to your home folder.
  2. Go to the Library folder.
  3. Go to the Preferences folder.
  4. Delete the “Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings” (or similar name) folder.(Folder name may differ depending on what version you have)

However I don't have any adobe files in my Preferences folder.

HELP!!!!!
