locked catalog

I use photoshop lightroom 4 with my PC and my notebook. The catalog is on an external drive. When I try to start Lightroom on my notebook and to open the catalog on the external drive, the catalog is locked and not available. Why is the catalog locked?

Have you checked to ensure that the notebook does have write permission for the external drive?

Go to the folder containing your catalog file in your operating system. Is there a .lock file in this folder? If so, delete the .lock file. Then you should be able to open LR normally.

Yes, there ist a lock file, created when I started Lightroom. Thanks
for the hint!

Only remove the lock file when Lightroom is closed.
