Exporting a Layered PSD and Overprint Fill

Hi guys.

I'm trying to export a layered PSD of my AI file and I keep having problems with it merging the layers because of the overprint settings.

I've been trying to go through and turn off the overprint in my objects, but I have a photo that's cropped by a rectangle shape, and the Overprint Fill option under Attributes is greyed out. What must I do?

    The photo must have a rectangular Clipping Mask, and you're actually selecting the Clipping Mask Group that was created as a result of the photo being "cropped" to the Clipping Mask. You want the photo within.

     

     

    OPTIONS:

     

    1. Enter the Clipping Mask Group in order to select the photo within (double-click to enter  -OR-  click photo with Direct Selection Tool  -OR-  select Clipping Mask Group and click the Edit Contents button located in the top-docked Control Panel)
    2. Release the Clipping Mask (CTRL+ALT+7  -OR-  Object > Clipping Mask > Release)

    Well, when I release the clipping mask, both the image and the selection mask do not have the overprint checked or greyed. But when I apply the mask, it turns grey again (with a "-").

    You have a linked image.

     

    Embed the image and overprint will be available but take notice that you cannot overprint a process image over a process color, so you have either have spot color under it or you want to actually use the Multiply mode in the Transparency panel.

    Before someone jumps in and says but you can print a process image over a solid process color. that is true but only to some degree and the results are difficult to perdict.

     

    At any rate you need to embed the image.

    Huh, it's still flattening containers.

    I embeded all the images, and when I try to turn off the overprint, it does this:

    Why do you think that the overprint settings are the problem? Did you use any overprint settings?

    That is normal the way it is displayed if you want evverything you selected to be overprint then click on the box again.

     

    All the dash mark means is that some items are set for overprint and some are not.

     

    But also that looks like those layouts are web pages why would you set the art to overprint?

    No I didn't. But other people have told me Overprint settings can prevent PSDs from exporting properly. And in the past, they've been right. But these darn Overprints won't stay off in this document.

    That's the thing, I didn't set it to overprint. I never do. It just turns on as I'm designing for certain items, I can't figure out why...

    There might be an effect that requires the white to be set to overpront.
