Look into using TweenLite for starters. There should be plenty of tutorials and examples around, both where you go to acquire it and thru a Google search.

TweenMax / Lite is the best tweening package there is for Flash - go to http://www.greensock.com for example and such done with it. Flash and math.com also have many good examples: http://www.flashandmath.com/
