My file and artboard changes size when I export

I all, I'm working on a file that I have setup as 1045 px by 154 px. When I export this file to jpeg, png or bmp the file become over 4000 px wide. This is likely an easy thing I'm missing. Can anyone shed some light?

    The size of your file in pixels depends on the resolution you select on export. Set it to 72 ppi

    Hi Monika, thanks so much for the quick response. It's not the 72 vs 300 I'm concerned with. It's the width and height. I would like to create a document in Illustrator that is 1045 px wide by 154 px tall and then export that to TIFF or bmp or other format and have it still set to the same width and height. Is this possible?

    Well, have you  tried with a resolution of 72 ppi?

    Hi Monika, thanks for the latest response. I have considered that... but this is a very wierd one with a bit of background. This is for a super old system that needs a 1 bit file in black and white (exported as a bitmap) with 300 dpi resolution. I have no idea why it needs to be so specific... but they mentioned that the system will not except anything else. Hence my odd request for help.

     

    So I set this up in Illustrator, 1045 px by 154 px and then converted to greyscale and then exported to 1 bit bitmap which makes it true black. The problem is that when I open the file in Photoshop it shows that it's over 4000 px wide.The problem with this is that when I resize, this 1 bit image looks aweful. So I would rather export from Illustrator to the actual size.

    Export with 72 ppi from Illustrator and use Photoshop to change the resolution.

    Scale it in PS BEFORE converting from 8-bit.

     

    -OR-

     

    Turn off Anti-Alias artwork in prefs, set your display in Illustrator to Actual Size and take a screenshot. Paste into PS, crop and convert to 1-bit.

     

    If you don't want to turn off AA, in Illy, before pasting into PS, then after pasting, flatten the file and use Image > Adjustments > Thresshold to custom fine-tune how the AA pixels are turned either black or white.

    Thank you... so I have the image in photoshop... I exported as a TIFF. I've resized it to the size I need and changed to greyscale. I'm not sure how to convert to 1 bit with a decent quality. Any pointers? Thanks so much.

    WHat exactly do you mean with "decent quality"? It's 1-bit after all.
