FW CS4 / FW CS5

May 16, 2012 2:05 AM

I created art work Images in FW CS4 saved as on a LaCie mobile drive, when I open image in FW CS5 Png or Jpg, the image opens flat,  can't edit - on Mac OS X 10.7.3.

BUT When I open the same image in Mac OS X 10.6.8' FW CS4 - edit image works fine.

* Can you help me figure out why the images open in FW CS5 flat and un-editable on my new iMac OS X10.7.3??

Thank You

I'm not sure what's causing the issue you're describing, but just to clarify: If you're saving or exporting a file as a JPEG, you're creating a flattened version of the file. Likewise, if you're choosing the Flattened PNG format.

    Save As JPG.png

It doesn't sound like you're doing this, but there's some ambiguity in the way you've worded your question—your first sentence, in particular—so I thought I'd mention it, just to be sure.

The best format for a working document is Fireworks PNG. Since the extension for this is indistinguishable from that of a flattened PNG, I'm in the habit of adding FW to the end of the file name of any Fireworks PNG that I create. That way I know it's a multi-layer PNG at a glance.

This one's over my head... I've not heard of the issue before.

Might the file be locked somehow? Are you accessing it from the mobile drive? If so, you might try copying it to your computer first. (Or vice versa: try opening it directly from the mobile drive.)

And does this happen with other files created in FW CS4? Maybe try resaving the file from within Mac OS X 10.6.8 FW CS4. You could also try saving a copy in an alternative multi-layer format, like PSD, though you might lose something in translation.
