How can I uninstall an earlier version when add/remove programs can't access the installation source?
Assuming that you are on Windows, try http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Thanks for the tips. I ran the troubleshooter at the link you provided
but it couldn't recognize the problem.
Oddly, I cannot reply via the discussion page to either your post or the
one made by an Adobe employee. He said to remove the Reader folder and
delete the registry entries, then re-install Reader. Can someone please tell
me exactly how to do those tasks? thank you....

Do you have any professional Adobe software installed on your system, like Creative Suite?
If not, download and run Acrobat Cleaner from http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
No, just the free Reader X and the old version 9.3.2.

Thank you everyone. The cleaner uninstalled my most recent version then let me uninstall the one I wanted to, too. It did, however, leave huge files from that version and from two previous versions so I deleted them because they wouldn't uninstall even with the cleaner. I was able to download and install the most recent version. The problem with storage space turned out to be huge files created and then abandoned by Quickbooks Online Backup ( .ARC files)
thanks a bunch
