Anyone got a link to the Premiere CS6 downloadable Help file ( pdf) yet?
I could understand for CS6, but why did they have to remove the ones for CS5??? Makes absolutely no sense. That those of us who USED TO have access to a help file for our purchased products are pretty much screwed until CS6 gets it's help guides in order. I think I speak for all of the adobe community when I say.... WTF?
You can also now find PDFs for multiple previous versions of all Creative Suite products on the arcjove pages for each product.
On the Help hub for a product, look for the "Previous versions" link.
Here are a few of the archive pages with PDFs of three previous help versions.
Premiere Pro: http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/archive.html
After Effects: http://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/archive.html
Photoshop: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/archive.html
Flash Pro: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash/archive.html
Media Encoder: http://helpx.adobe.com/content/help/en/media-encoder/archive.html
I set a web browser that is not my default browser to open to my local PP5_HELP.pdf as it's "Home" page.
I put that browser in my Task Bar in Windows, so that it is always available in a single click at the bottom of my screen.
So, for example, I use Internet Explorer as my default web browser. I set my home page in Safari to the locally stored help PDF. (Chrome would be another choice.)
You can also set your "Favorites Bar" (In Internet Explorer terminology) to open all of the other common PDF help files that you use - PS, AE, etc. with a single click from the top "Favorites" bar.
I'll look at a way to remap the F2 or similar key within Premiere Pro. But for now this is just as easy for me, if not easier.
I have my Task Bar set to "auto hide", so that it is not on the screen unless I roll my cursor down to the bottom of the screen. Then it pops up, I can click on help, and have exactly what I want available offline.
Which reminds me, on my editing desktop I only use Production Premium. I will add all of my commonly used Adobe aps to the task bar, so that I have PS, AE, Speed Grade, etc. availble to open with a single click there.
Hope that helps! I **love** CS6 so far!
Cheers,
Michael
Kevin,
Quick question, and I hope that is not getting too far OT.
Is there any © issue, if we download the PDF, when done, and take it to a commercial printing shop?
In the past, I have run into instances, where some did not want to print and bind a software "manual." Does Adobe see any issues with doing that?
TIA,
Hunt
hi todd,
your advice within this forum is most welcome, however, as a newbie to cs6 (mainly ppro) i find it quite astounding that there's STILL no help files available. i am desperately trying to get my head around certain things, such as speech to text and finding very little help of any use at all.
this delay in publishing help files does not auger well for my continued enthusiam for ppro.
hoping you can shed some light on the matter as we're now at the tail end of june.....
thank you kevin. much appreciated.
@ jeff - f1 might work for you, but it certainly doesn't work for me. i get taken to a webpage (on line) that tells me what's new in cs6 and how to work in 5.5!
prem - http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/topics.html
ps - http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/topics.html
ae - http://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects.html
none of which are of any real use as serious help - and especially not as they're on line, which my edit pc rarely is!

These are "Topic Pages" for Help. You can think of these pages as the Table of Contents.
What's new and links to past versions of Help is part of Help. I'm sorry that confused you.
Scroll down a bit to see all the topics. Click a link, you get taken to that specific topic.
BTW, when I click F1 for Help in After Effects, I get the proper link, not the one you just linked to.
If you don't think this is "serious" Help, I'm sorry you feel that way. I write the Help, so feel free to air out any criticisms to me, and I'll try my best to address them.
I apologize for not having the PDF ready on ship day. This was a decision I had no control over. Despite my heavy lobbying (on behalf of users like yourself) the new Help system had more pressing technical challenges for our production team.
The good news is the PDF looks good with the bonus of having navigation on every page in the form of bookmarks. It can be updated as often as I like too.
Just a bit more patience is required, as we have almost completed testing it.
kevin, it was no repraoch to your ACTUAL help, which i've found to be both clear and concise - it's the actual getting to it i find frustrating - especially having to be on line to access it.
could i have perhaps missed something when installing cs6 pb that i get nothing but links to on line help?
i would have thought help would be available on f1 (off line) as in nearly all my other apps, such as vegas, m$ office, etc.,

Oh, OK. Thanks!

Yes, I know that many video editors don't hook up their machines to the web. I apologize for not having the PDF for ship. Again, it was out of my hands.

Offline Help will be available to users going forward. We have a new Help system, and creating a PDF from it proved to be a challenge. Thanks for understanding.
@ kevin - thanks again. much clearer ;-)
@mark - your advice seems to contradict kevin's in as much as kevin states offline help WILL be available at some point in the future. unfortunately i'm not near my edit pc, but if you post a link to the help you're refering to (for cs6), i'd appreciate it. thanks
Off topic...wishing this many Adobe Employee's would chime in on the "Serious Error" thread.... I know you guys are busy, but I don't think one employee has responded yet. Please don't take this the wrong way, just think the below post is driving alot of us batty with no help in sight.

Pete
Most of us from Adobe on this thread are on the documentation team. And this is a question about documentation going back almost 2 months.
I'll see if I can get someone on the engineering team to look at your other post, though hijacking someone else's thread is probably not the best way to go about it. Please avoid doing that in the future.
Also, spending time in the forums is one of my responsibilities, but not the only one. For busy Adobe employees, it is hard to get to every single post. I hope you understand.
Please engage me on the other thread, leaving this one for questions about the Help PDF.
