I have been working with two Templates for two separeate sites in CS5.5 and both the templates and sites are the same, somehow my templates quit working due to me deleting a file on my webserver that I thought was a duplicate, they restored my "sites" and still I have the same problem if I edit my template and hit save it will not update my files that use the template. Can anybody PLEASE take the time and try to help me figure out why my templates are there but will not update all my 192 pages after I edit the template. PLEASE HELP me.. I know it will take you more than 2 minutes to figure out. But the satisfaction of fixing a problem will compensate for the time? And I will thank you forever. If you know the template thing please help me look at his. Im blue in the face.
here are the two sites

Does Dreamweaver give you a prompt asking if you want to update child pages?
Did you upload all child pages to your remove server?

Let me try to explain this problem a little better for you.
I created my site using a template. Everything was working fine, If I would update the template it would prompt me to update the child pages and update all of the pages. Then I decided to clean up some of the mess on my webserver, and everything appears to be the same but now if I edit the template it now asks me to update the child pages, it almost wants to work and I get an error that says "error accessing file. C\users\ted\documents\sub-zero-refrigeration.com\html\templates\templ ates\cityweather.dwt" : bad file path (error code 3)
What I am thinking is the cityweather.dwt template is in the wrong folder?
I hope that clears it up for you. I am usually online 20 hours a day, If I could share my screen with your or let you look at my files somehow and you know where the dwt should be and what points to it I believe it should be an easy fix. I just spent 16 weeks in college classes for Dreamweaver and this for sure was not covered by any book or teacher that was teachin my class.
I been taking it easy with the problem because the site is up. I really need to get some more work done on it and the template starting with the company name and address in the footer is my next step. I cant do that if the template is gone?
I just tried to add a Template folder in the Template folder and dragged the cityweather.dwt into the second folder in the folder. THEN it updated the child pages with my footer but when I tried to put it up on the webserver it says nothing needs syncronized would you like to see the files, I say yes and there is nothing in the list.
Thanks for helping in advance.

Yes. DW's default folder for all Templates is the local site's Templates folder. When you make a template the first time, DW creates this folder for you. If you move or rename template file/folders, it WON'T work.
Local Files
- SITE - SiteName (C:\SiteName)
-Templates
cityweather.dwt
+Images
+Styles
+Scripts
index.html

For some reason, I was either copying, getting or putting files and some how my templates folder, assets folder and others became
templates/templates/cityweather.dwt
or assets/assets/photo.jpg
or shockwavemovies/shockwavemoves/subby.swf
instead of templates/cityweather.dwt
assets/photos
shockwavemovies/subby.swf
I have no idea why this occured or what may have happened. Thanks to your input I seem to have the one site corrected for tonight. Of course I have to digest this entire thing to make sure I do not loose a ton of stuff and that all of my analyitcs and siteauth are correct.
If you have any Idea why my folder would have put another folder in it please explain.
If I highlighted all my images and got them or dragged them from the webserver to my images folder would that create another image folder in the image folder? If that sounds like what may have happend then I am pretty sure thats what happened? HMM.
Thank you so much for your time

That's sounds about right. When bringing site files from remote to local site, all you need to do is click the main site folder and hit GET (down arrow). DW intuitively copies remote files & folders to your local site.

Thank you again Nancy. I have not played with my mess yet today but that explains it. Instead of saying GET file, I dragged the folder from my web server to the Templates folder and that created a Template Folder inside of my Template Folder, The only thing I am not sure about is why the old template in the original folder still did not work, I am positive it was something I did messing around trying to figure this all out. I am very satisfied with that answer and can not thank you enough for taking the time to help me figure that out. It is nothing you can read in any book if you know what I mean. Crazy stuff and me do not get along well. ![]()
