I've been using Capture in PPro CS5.5 with no problems on WIndows 7. Trying to capture in CS6 generates error: "Can't Activate Recorder. Try Resetting Camera" and Premiere locks up. Tried connecting/disconnecting camera, powering camera on and off, switching firewire drivers between legacy and default, rebooting, etc. I go back into CS5.5, and Capture sees the camera just fine. This is not a show-stopper since I can capture in CS5.5, but am wondering if I am doing something wrong.
What's your device? I've had the problem in the pat as my old DV devices have quickly become 'outdated' over the years. ...or, conversely, it could be 'too new'. Did you try selecting the generic device profile if your specific device is not listed?
The problem is being experienced with two cameras: Sony HDR-HC7 and Sony HVR-Z5U. The former is several years old and the latter is a relatively current model. Absolutely positively works fine in CS5.5. Absolutely does not work on same PC in CS6 - continues to generate same error message. Man, I can't wait to be totally tapeless. Soon! In the meantime, I'll just continue to use CS5.5 for capture. Thanks to all for the help.
