Colours are washed out

If I draw, let's say, a circle with no stroke but black as my colour, it appears mid grey insted of black. As you can see from the attached pic, black is set to 000000 and the alpha is 100%. Is there another setting somewhere that I'm not aware of that is causing this

    Check the alpha value in your picture the value es 60%, change to 100%

    Esdebon, where are you seeing alpha = 60% ? It is clearly circled in my pic as 100%. Is there some other place that I am not seeing ?

    Esbedon, thank you. I didn't know this feature existed. I've certainly never tinkered with it so I can only wonder how it got to be at 60%. Even so, at least I know to keep an eye on it in future !
