Installing Photoshop on new computer...

May 22, 2012 10:49 AM

I bought Photoshop CS3 for my old computer (running Vista) and later bought the CS5 upgrade for it.

Now I just got a new computer (running Windows 7) and want to install Photoshop on it. Do I have to first go into my Adobe account and download the full version of CS3 and THEN download the CS5 upgrade? Or is there some better way to do this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    No.

Read the installer panels carefully.  There will be a point where you'll be asked to enter the serial number of the product you upgraded from.

No, if you do not want the other versions on your new computer it is best not to put them on and then uninstall them.

PS works best if you install in order.  So it you want older versions put then on first and leave them there.

If not, as Noel says, just enter the s/n of CS5 which would be your qualifying product for the CS6 upgrade.

Guess I misread.  If you are not upgrading to CS6 then just install CS5 and type in qualifying s/n from CS3.

Let's say I wanted to upgrade to CS6 now instead. Would I just need to buy the CS6 upgrade (even though there's currently no version of Photoshop installed on this computer)?

    Exactly right.
