Why Illustrator still does not have Duplicate, Step and Repeat... and individual rounding corners of rectangles like InDesign has?

I do a lot of work with small objects that need to be duplicated horizontally, vertically or as a grid, with a certain precision that is not possible now in AI.

ID has an abillity to round individual corner of a rectangle. It is not possible that AI still does not have that feature. It should be expanded to any kind of polygons also.

    +1 on all of that. One of the things I miss the most from Corel DRAW is the ability to Repeat what I just did on a second, third, etc. object.

     

    And I have a feeling they will never incorporate better rounded corners so as not to give a blow to one of their only plugin makers, Astute Graphics.

    But why it is implemented in ID, if so?

    I can't say for sure. But I would guess it's because Astute Graphics does not make plugins for InDesign.

    Also because the user base for Adobe Illustrator is much more diverse than InDesign users. inDesign is for layout, period.

    Myself, I use Illustrator for vector design, vector editing, print ad design, it's the first step in new website design, etc. etc. Adobe is probably spread thin adding features they hope all users will like.

    Plus, Adobe seems to be ignoring fixing "the little things" in favor of adding new features which they can splash onto their new versions.

    A) Duplicate = Copy... then "Paste in Front", "...Behind", or "...in Place".

     

    B) Step and Repeat = a few ways to do this

     

    1. Option Drag a copy, then choose "Object -> Transform Again" ***
    2. for scale, rotate, skew, etc.: select your object, then your tool of choice, and option-click or right-click to bring up the dialog box; input your settings and then click the box "Copy"... once again use Transform Again for multiple copies.
    3. Choose your object, then choose Object -> Transform Each; input your settings and again choose "copy"... then Transform Again
    4. Use Object -> Blend -> Blend Options, and choose Specified distance or Specified Steps... then Expand Appearance to release the blend group.
    5. EASIEST and editable: choose your object; and then use Effect -> Distort and Transform -> Transform : set Scale, Rotate, Move, number of copies, point of origin, etc. Use preview. Edit the effect by clicking it in the Appearance panel.

     

    *** = Use and/or customize Keyboard shortcuts for speed.

     

    PS. You are correct that Illustrator STILL cannot create individual Rounded Corners!!!! Unbelievable really, because we could do this in Freehand for the last 14+ years... even inverse corners and interactive using the simple "hollow arrow" and the option key.
