I am trying to install ReaderX and Flash 11.2

I am trying to install Reader X and Flash 11.2, but they will not initialize. I just installed AIR with no issues. I use Windows Vista Home Basic, Firefox browser, I have Avast AV. I turned Avast off, and the programs downloaded fine, but I keep getting 'failed to initialize' messages. Help?
