Shipping Options

Tags: #options #shipping

We are planning to launch a gifting site and wondering if sub shipping options are possible.  For example, we have two shipping options i)next day ii) same day. When customer selects the 'same day' option, we want to show a list of postcode, where we can delivery and upon selecting appropriate the postcode we show the shipping cost?

Many thanks,

Actually you would do it in reverse of that. In your shipping you would set up shipping options to the zones you want. If they are not in  that zone then that particular shipping option woould not even show up.

Not sure where you are located, but I don't know if it would be required to list all Postal Codes.

For example here in Canada we can set up a local one day shipping for British Columbia where I am based. Everything else would just default to two-day shipping for example.

No need to apologize for being new to the system! ;-)

If you are serious about sticking with and learning Business Catalyst I can recommend checking out these two sites. They helped me tremendously and still do.

    http://www.bcgurus.com

Both are awesome and the people involved in running them are partners just like us. They are very knowledgable and super nice people.

I am sure there must be an easier way.

1: Perhaps your postal service is supported directly within Business Catalyst?
2: Perhaps some way to generate a discount code for people in those areas that would be redeemed for 1 day shipping?

    Hi,

I just came across this thread - I am also searching for shipping options that I can set to handle UK postcodes.

    The best scenario would be:

    1) The customer enters his postcode,

    2) From this the cart determines which zone he is in (1,2 or 3)*

    3) Displays the cost depending on the Zone and weight.

    * Zones would be set before hand (sort of like States)

Does anyone know if BC plans on integrating with any UK carriers (Nightfreight / ParcelForce) or UK Postal Sevice (Royal Mail)?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I am currently using a different Online Shopping CMS system and this shipping question really seems to be a deal breaker at the moment on whether I convert to BC or not.

    Hi,

For now we are not planning on integrating any new shipping services in BC. New plans on this direction may appear late next year or even later.

    Thanks.

    Hi Bryan

Thanks for your post.  I knew about the gurus, but not Kiyuko.  Will check it out.  Also, often I find your posts to be very helpful.  I, as many are, are still somewhat new to the system.  In some ways it reminds me of having to learn an entirely new programming language . . . something akin to that anyway.  BC is definitely not the most user-friendly environment I have ever worked in, but with people like you willing to help, things will continue to be learned.  Thanks again.

    Dennis Woodhall

P.S.  forgive what must sound overly obsequious

Considering shipping is one of the big problems with eCommerce and it also has several bugs and free wordpress eCommerce addons have better options, it is disheartning when you hear things like this are 2 years down the line. Especially when the changes/fixed and improvements people need are not 2 years development time but a couple of guys on i for a day or so.

I agree wholeheartedly with Liam... This is the bigget hinderence to a successful eCommerce rollout for a number of my clients. Why soemone can't give a couple of developers at least the taskof bilding an import/export function for the shipping tables I will never understand. Entering these by hand 1 at a time is 'neolithic' - it is in the age of the dinasours so let's see if we can get some push on this please. I realsie that freight costing is very complex and difficult but BC has a good part of the logic in place - someone just dropped the ball when it came to the user interface and it seems like manual entry was a last ditch quick fix to a facility that no one wanted to pursue.

I haven't even tried going to dimensions - that would be too scary and now it seems you are stating that my fears now have a new basis...

I have for a long time wanted to see if we could integrate a product called Temando (www.temando.com) into BC as it is an independant shipping/courier clearing house. They were taking to BC just before the sellout to Adobe and as far as I am aware it has gone no further. They are based here in Brisbane and have a brilliant product but working out how to integrate into BC is beyond my skills. They have API calls and if anyone has any idea of how we might be able to make this happen we could have a solution that lets us forget BC shipping altogether.

There is no API for shipping either at the moment so if you do want to look at just sorting it with a 3rd party you can not do that either

I am really wishing for a shipping API at the moment. 180 shipping options to enter, one by one. Not the best way to spend my time...

A need for shipping option import or API has been logged in our issue tracker as a feature request. It should be considered when the dev team starts working on improvements to eCommerce.
