script execution differences

in Extendscript, executing the following:

 

app.activeDocument.flatten();

 

will simple flatten layers, no questions asked.  However if i do it through the Layer menu or through a configurator script button, it will give me a dialog asking to discard hidden layers. Does configurator use a different engine tha extendscript?  When alerting the $.engineName, i get an empty string in configurator and "main" in extendscript.

 

Is there any way to enforce how the script is executed?
