IndesignCS3 graphic skews when opened in CS5.5!!!

May 28, 2012 7:16 AM

I had a customer supplied CS3 document that we originally opened in CS4 and the graphic in question rendered properly. We then received a revised version (CS3 again) from the client and we inadvertently opened it in CS5.5. By opening it in CS5.5 the oblong shaped Indesign graphic skewed on one end. This shape had a 7 pt white rule and had a Indesign gradient graphic pasted into it . The look was that of a pill (prescription drug) for a Prescription Drug Brochure. It wasn't noticed and printed that way!!!! We're looking for answers on why this occurred???

How many copies did you print?

Hard to visualize what youare dscribing. I don't suppose you can give us some screen captures?

There are other reports of strange things happening when opening legacy files in newer versions, and there is ALWAYS the possibility that you will cause text reflow, even if everything else is OK, if you touch a text frame. As a prepress operator, I wonder why you would even use CS4 to open a CS3 file? There is a little utility from Rorohiko.com called Soxy that will automatically launce hte correct version of ID when opening files, and it would probably be worth your while to use it.
