Why Indesign CS6 keeps opening the same old Indesign documents multiple times?

I just installed the Indesign CS6 trial version before I purchase the professional version. I opened one of my old Indesign file from CS5 and a weird thing is hapenning on Indesing CS6. Everytime I click on the page or tab of the Indesign file that I am working on (test.indd, see attached), a new file is created from a different Indesign CS5 file (edu_lipper_conv_backpage.indd, see attached). Indesign CS6 will not stop duplicating this file until and force quit Indesign CS6. Attached is a screen shot with additional information about what is happening. Thanks, Jeneffer

    Try closing ID, then empty the InDesign Recovery folder for CS6. That should stop auto-recovery of everything that was open when you force quit.

    Where do I go to empty the Indesing Recovery folder for CS6?... sorry for the question but I never done this before.

    By default it will be in your user library at

    Hard Drive/Users/<USER>/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign/Version 8.0/<Language>/ which is probably a hidden folder and I'm a windows user, so I don't remember how to show hidden folders on Lion.

     

    The location should also be shown inthe prefs under File Handling, but may be partly truncated so not really readable.

    I am Mac OS 10.7.3. and I cant find it. I searched for InDesign Recovery folder, and the file doesn't seem to exist anywhere.  I tried to find the location for the folder by looking at the file handling under prefs and as you mendioned it is not readable. is there another solution for this?

    As I said, a hidden folder on Lion. See http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/access-hidden-user-library-f iles.html

    Got it now. I emptied the InDesign Recovery folder but the problem still persists.

    Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps

    Drove me nuts for weeks.

    Ahhh, yes, Lion. Seems to me I've read something about a default preference that restores applications to the last state if they were not closed down when you quit. That might be it.

    It did not work. The involuntary duplicating of files by Indesign CS6 happens on Digital publishing Work Space, every time I tried to create a button using the button and forms window option for an ipad app.

    Does it anybody knows why Indesign CS6 keeps duplicating files by itself? Is this a bug??? Please see my previous post... thanks so much for the good soul that can figure this out... like any other bug... it is driving me crazy

    Try a clearer explanation, please. Your original post claims that the windows with old converted documents are spawned whenever you click on a page or tab; your most recent post cliams that it happens only in the digital publishing workspace when you create a button. Does it not happen in another workspace?

     

    Why do you have to force quit? Doing so with files open will cause files to re-open from your Recovery folder, so you should stop force quitting ID and quit the normal way. That is what the Recovery folder is for, after all - to automatically re-open docs that were open when ID crashes, or when you force quit.

     

    I have to agree with you, though - I think it's a bug, too, that has to do with how Lion works. You may have to wait for a patch to be released by Adobe (or Apple!), or you may have to reinstall CS6.  I don't know if it will help, but you could try replacing your preferences first.

    Here is the steps of how the problem starts:

     

    1. I open a old CS5 file from CS6

    2. I change the workspace to digital publishing

    3. I click on the Button and Form window to drag a button

    4. Set the button properties, and as soon as I click anywhere on the page, I get the wheel of death

    5. Idesign CS6 opens an old Indesing file out of the blue.

    6. I click to close it but a new identical file of the old file is created.

    7. I try to go back to the my original file that I was working on, but Indesign wont let me, then again opens an old file out of the blue.

    8. I try swiching workspaces. But as soon as I click anywhere on window the same thing happens...

    9. After ending up with 4 or 5 docs that I never opened, I force quit.

     

    I think I found a quick fix for this thanks to Peter Spier. I am cleaning up the Indesign Recovery Folder as it gets filled. The only problem is that I have to constantly go back to this folder to empty it to stop the spawning of old docs.
