Hello indesigners.
I have made a shape(which i have converted into a button) on my master page, and the same shape appears on all my other pages as desired.
but the wierd thing is i cannot select it on the pages exept the masterpage, usualy i click shift+ctrl and select the shape,or text i want to move or rezise
on a page.but i cant understand why indesign is not allowing me to do so this time.my btn its not a locked object either.
Thank you.

Is Shift Control the shortcut for Windows? I'm a Mac guy, and I use Shift Command. If you're on a Mac, you're using the wrong key combination, but my guess is that you are on Windows.
I also thought I'd point out something else that you probably already know (but may be unknown to others looking in on this thread), but there are some pitfalls to releasing master-page items on document pages that you need to be aware of. I learned Quark when I first started in this business, and all master-page items could be manipulated on document pages, so I was surprised when I started using InDesign that they were not. Now that I use ID more than Quark, I'm glad it's that way. If I were going to have an item that I wanted to mess with on document pages, I'd create them (or at least paste-in-place them) on the document pages where they were needed. If I wanted unedited versions on other document pages, I'd probably use a master page with the items for those pages, and a different master page for the ones that didn't.
The thing you need to watch for is if you have a facing-page doc, and you add an odd number of pages anywhere but to the end of the document. What that does is to reapply the master page to the document pages if they switch from left to right or right to left. If you had an edited button on a page and it switched sides on the spread, an unedited button would be added to the page from the master. Not that it's a deal-breaker, but it's something you would have to be mindful of, and it could require a bit of cleanup. What you really want to avoid is missing one when the job is going live. You don't have to worry about that if you don't mess with master-page items on document pages.
Just my 2¢
Sorry, overriding all master page items is NEVER the correct answer to any problem, and I don't think that's what Lilia was suggesting.
Are you sure the button isn't locked or on a locked layer? Or maybe not in front?
I like to change the prefs to allow selection of locked objects (Pre-CS5 behavior) so that objects can be locked for position, but still edited. And sometimes it works best if you hold down the Ctrl + Shift keys first, then drag a marquee through what you want to select.
Correct Peter, that is not what I wa suggesting... Just asked to see if it was or not,
@ Michael... I'm not sure if I understood you correctly... but it seems that you are unaware of some of the behaviour of master items.
An object on a master page that is overriden does not lose all of its master connections.
Example.
Place a red square on A-master > applied to page 1.
Apply override (cltr+shift+click)
Change the colour on page 1 to green.
Move the object on the master and the object also moves on the page. You can even reshape it.
To avoid the master shuffling symtom you mentioned... simply create a facing page document (as you do), edit A-Master and change it to 1 page only (label it LEFT eg), create a B-Master and ensure it is 1 page only (label it RIGHT)... NOW anytime you add a page, nothing will change because its not changing anything from left>right and vice-versa.
... a 1 page master is the answer.
OK, got the file.
When I opened it the only thing that I couldn't override with Ctrl + Shift Click was the Contents button in the lower corner. That should not have been happening, and I don't have an explantion of why it was. I did fix it, however, by going to the master page, cutting the button, then pasting in place to put it back.
Yep i also tried cutting the button, then pasting in place to put it back in place, and it worked, who knows what i had done wrong to confuse indeign not to work
overriding with Ctrl + Shift Click the element,oh well, the importing thing here is a solution to my problem, and gaining another tip.
thank you,
I'm not in a position to blame you for this at all. Sometimes things just get strange.
Frankly, I'm a little surprised that the cut and paste worked. Export to .idml did not, and in most cases where a frame is showing abberent behavior like this you wind up having to replace it. The important point here, though, is that that frame was not behaving as it should, that all maste objects should be subject to individual override, and that you shouldn't do a wholesale override all master items to fix a problem like this because you'll end up makein differnt kinds of trouble for yourself down the road.
