PF_ParamFlag_CANNOT_INTERP and Auto Keyframe mode

When I mark a parameter with PF_ParamFlag_CANNOT_INTERP, it no longer automatically sets keyframes when the value is changed with the "Auto keyframe property when modified" is turned on? Is this expected behavior?

 

Is there a way that I can have a  parameter that defaults to Hold mode interpolation on keyframes and still function correctly in auto keyframe mode?
