Flash Player crashes on every browser?

Jun 3, 2012 3:42 AM

Tags: #flash #youtube #lion #safari #crash #firefox #chrome

I know this topic seems to be common, but a lot of the things I have seen in other posts really has not helped me at all.
So, I think it's my turn to ask.

I am on Flash 11.2.202.235.
My OS is Mac OS X Lion.

No matter what browser I use, or at least the three that are on this computer, they all don't work and there's no crash report that could help me at all. It crashes every so often after maybe, 2 or 3 youtube videos or 5 or 10 minutes of seeing anything that would require flash.

First, when Flash Player crashes on Google Chrome 19, the whole webpage turns white, and I have to reload the page countless amounts of times until it works again.

When I try in Firefox, an error pops up that says "The Adobe Flash Plugin has crashed. No report available. Reload the page to try again." With a very depressed looking lego block.

When it crashes in Safari, the area of what is supposed to be the thing using flash becomes white and nothing happens.

I've tried reinstalling, clearing cache, deleting the browsers and reinstalling, and all of that, but, it continues to crash and I hope someone could help me!
Thanks!

    Hi Dean,

I'm sorry you're going through this.  This type of behavior is definitely not normal or common, so hopefully we can figure out what's going on.  I suspect you have some software or hardware on your system that is conflicting with Flash and causing these crashes to occur.

To start, can you send me (ccampbel@adobe.com) a copy of your system profile report?  Next, open up Chrome and type "about:flash" in the address bar and post the contents of the page that is displayed.

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Hi Dean and Fred,

Thanks for posting the logs.  Could you both enable crash reporting in Chrome, wait for another crash or two, then post the logs again?  I was hoping to get crash id's that Chrome stores but it won't start to track these until reporting is enabled.

hmm, unfortunately we're not getting any crash id's in your log.   Could you open a new bug report at bugbase.adobe.com and include the steps you take and a link to this forum post?  Getting the bug in will make sure we don't loose track of this issue.

I'm using now ver 11.2.202 and no problems at all, at last they should show us an easy link to older version and uninstaller, is not easy to find older releases.

    Thanks

PD, i did not put any log, because it fail in all browsers(chrome, firefox and safari on w7 64), then is not caused from any other plugin or extension, just flash player bug.

i have the identical problem in both Firefox 12.0 and Safari 5.1.7, running OSX 10.6.8. face it: this update is badly b0rked. Rushing to stave off HTML5 in the marketplace*  inevitably increases the likelihood of bugs by compressing QA and Beta times.11.3.300.257 Flash ought to be acknowledged as a failure by Adobe, and a big <blink>LINK</BLINK> to the previous, actually functioning release be place on the acknowledgement page. in the alternative, we can keep supplying Adobe engineers with helpful crash reports, further supporting Adobe, Inc. NOTE: no such problems have been reported for other platforms exploited ^W supported by Flash. Mais c'est incroyable!

*which honestly shouldn't be a marketplace at all. the rendering part of the web works because it can't be held hostage by any one business entity... HTMLN is never compiled... it's text...but i digress...

I had what I believe may be the same problem. I have managed to fix it on my machine. Hopefully this will help others fix their problems too, because Flash is everywhere so when it's borked, the internet is borked.

I recently upgraded to Mac OS X 10.7.4, and shortly (but not immediately) thereafter upgraded Adobe Flash Player to 11.3.300.257. Flash content broke in all browsers. Firefox displayed an error message: "The Adobe Flash plugin has crashed. No report available." Safari displayed an similar error message. Chrome would play audio but no video.

I tried uninstalling 11.3.300.257 and installing 11.2.202.233, which did not fix the problem. I tried uninstalling that and installing 10.3.183.18, which did not fix the problem either.

Finally, digging through the console logs, I found a stack trace of one of the crashes. It appeared to be dying in the nVidia graphics driver. I upgraded my nVidia driver and the problem is now fixed. (In my case, I have an nVidia Quadro FX 5600 in a Mac Pro and nVidia's 270.00.00f06 driver did the trick.)

    Good luck, everyone.

Flash on my 2008 Mac Pro (OS X 10.7.4) is now back to business, thanks a million for the tips!

All of you can download the new nVidia driver here:

    Thanks again!

    kebin0017,

The original post for this thread was made before Flash Player 11.3 was released.  As we have noted, there are severe issues with the latest release of Flash Player (11.3).  Please see this post for updates:

Are you having problems with Flash 11.3?

If you have a reliable and consistent way of reproducing a crash, we're very interested in hearing about it.  Please create a bug at bugbase.adobe.com and post back with the bug number or URL.  I'll investigate immediately.

    Chris

    Thanks Josh,

Do you still have the stack trace you mentioned in your bug report?  If so, would you mind attaching it to the bug?

I'm assuming that the Quadro FX 5600 is not a stock card for the Mac Pro?  Do you happen to remember what driver you previously had installed?
