I'm new to this specific forum, so I hope this is the appropriate location for this question:
I'm overwhelmed every time I try to choose a website template. Most services offer fairly elegant flash based sites with automatic html and mobile versions. I almost signed up with Foliolink, but their servers have gone down for multiple days on more than one occasion that I witnessed. I was not overly impressed with the offerings reviewed by PDN. Other options sound promising as pitched on the web. But I'm not seeing any user reviews by pro photographers. I'm a pro retoucher & photo illustrator. Seeking a fairly basic portfolio template with intuitive navigation & elegant design options that I (with no coding knowledge) can set up, and maintain inexpensively. It will need to include email hosting, and the usual flash/html/mobile/ipad versions. I do have my own domain.
Thanks for your input.
Have you thought about using Wordpresss? There are countless themes available and many designed for portfolio sites. Premium themes are generally, very affordable and the better ones come with reasonable support. You will be able to achieve quite a bit using plugins say, for a contact form or Flickr feed. If you went this way you would need to learn how to use Wordpress but there is plenty of online, video and printed guidance available. If you are interested, you could make up a free blog on Wordpress.com just to try out and abandon later. Once you get he hang of the Wordpress dashboard (admin area) a decent host would probably install it for you. You can then just make sure it's the latest version install you theme and off you go.
The only thing I woul suggest you do if you choose Wordpress is o pend a little tim thinking about security. You would easily find some web based guidance on this but here are a few steps that you could do yourself like, ditching the admin username. Ther are also a few security plugins to help as well.
